Freeware Mission - Best Free BitTorrent Client

Saturday 2 comments

The Freeware Mission continues! I'm going to outfit my system with only freeware programs, except Windows XP. Yesterday I chose my Web Browser, now I'm going to pick the BitTorrent Client for me. Anybody wanna guess?

Well, the choice is quite simple: i think that the best free BitTorrent Client is uTorrent, no doubt about that: it rarely crashes, it's small and uses only a small amount of system resources. Yesterday they released the first beta of the uTorrent 1.8, and I'm already testing it. The first look is positive, the interface is slightly changed.

You can find a complete list of changes and fixes here. And you can download it from here, it's free!

Freeware Mission - Best Free Web Browser

If you read yesterday's post you know that my system has crashed and I had to reinstall Windows XP. The "Freeware Mission" means that I'll try to install only free software on my computer. First of all I need a web browser. Which one should I choose?

Well, the choice is quite simple. I've been using Firefox for years now, and it's been a good reliable program for me. I won't change it, so the free web browser for me is Firefox, no doubt about that! You can download the latest version from here, it's free!

Which reminds me, I reviewed a few weeks ago a nice piece of freeware called MozBackup, a free Firefox and Thunderbird backup tool. Fortunately I backed up my Firefox settings when I tested the program, so now I was able to restore all my bookmarks, passwords, settings, everything! That saved me a lot of time and energy! You can download it from here.

Computer crash - run for your lives!

Friday 0 comments

Well, my computer crashed tonight, leaving me cursing and smoking heavily. My desktop, with dozens of shortcuts and useful stuff now looks like hell!

Obviously now I have to reinstall all the software that I had before the crash, and only thinking about that drives me a little mad. But I thought of something that could make the whole thing worthwhile: I'll try to install only free software, freeware, open source. The only commercial software in my computer will be Windows XP and the video editing software that I use to make some cash. And that means that I'll dig for freeware stuff and, of course, I'll let you know what I find. Starting tomorrow this blog will be the scene where I'll review the free software that will outfit my system from now on. Wish me luck :) I will call this "The Freeware Mission"!
